This painting was a year in the making. Somewhere along the line I was touched by a story about a lotus and its symbolism in our own growth. I started the painting and it was too realistic for my taste. I knew I couldn't create a realistic art piece that survived my own criticism. When I finally gave myself permission to color the leaves with bright colors, I freed myself to finish the piece. Sometimes we have to get out of our own way, and wipe off the muck of our thinking, in order to shine!
