A Sign of Love Splashed Across the Sky
When I opened my bedroom shade yesterday morning, these colors were splashed across the sky. I was so filled with AWE I actually said “AAAH, would you look at that!”
Often our lives on the hamster wheel keep us so focused on the task ahead that we don’t take the time to witness life happening all around us. And if I am only moving from one task to another, wrapped up in all of my to dos, rather than taking a moment to breathe, I am going to miss these moments. In fact, it was only two minutes later when the sun was high enough in the sky that the colors had softened, the bright orange and pink had faded away, and the moment of expansive AWE was over. And to think I would have missed that amazing view if I had opened my shades just a minute later, or not at all.
We do need to take the time to pull up the shades of our heart, let down our guard, and allow ourselves to be surprised by the world. There is much kindness, love and joy all around, even in the midst of darkness, if you choose to see it.
When I was sick so long ago, I had an aunt who would visit when I most needed a positive mental attitude boost. She would let me complain for five minutes and then she would make me take a shower, get dressed, and don my crutches for a walk outside. Along the way, she would ask me what was good in my life. In the darkness of illness, I found joy in the smallest of things. The blossoming of new flowers, new paint on a mailbox, the joy of my children’s voices, the letter from a friend.
There is always something to be grateful for. The trick is to slow down enough so you don’t miss the good stuff!
GRATEFULNESS ALLOWS US…TO NURTURE A KEENER EYE THAT NO LONGER RUSHES PAST THE SMALL EVERYDAY MOMENTS THAT MAKE UP THE LARGER PART OF OUR LIVES.
